Around 1994, a few years before I was married , I began collecting children's literature. This was well before my child was born and my collection was for "someday". Once my little guy came along, I began collecting in earnest and every birthday, Christmas and 'National Peanut Butter Day' always provided a fantastic opportunity to buy and give another wonderful book for my family. If your family loves books - this may sound familiar.
Two years ago - I began "scouring" used book sales and thrift stores and my book collecting became an un-quenching passion. At the time I didn't know where this book collecting would eventually lead, but I knew it was on my heart to "save" these books. You see my interest had turned to vintage classics and yesteryear favorites…books that had been discarded, but carried messages of hope and emulated the values I treasure for my son and family.
In 2011, I found a wonderful group of Christian women whose stories were similar to mine. Some of them had even taken their ‘collecting’ to the next level …. ‘sharing’. Their passion and tutelage has inspired me to turn (what I believe is) my God gifted collection of books into a private lending library primarily to serve Christian homeschooling families.
With almost 6,000 books (and growing), Wisdom Roots, a living books library, opened in early September 2012, to serve families who treasure using literature and living books as a prominent way to educate their families.
Even though this story is 18+ years old, it feels like the journey has just begun! To God be the glory!
